Good drinks and Canadian fare

Really enjoyed my dinner at North Coal restaurant for the taste of Burlington last night. For a drink I went with their smoked old-fashioned which is something I have always wanted to try. I do wish they would have torched the wood at the table which would have made for a better show. I also kind of screwed it up by taking a sip too soon which cleared out the smoke. I realized I should have let it sit so the smoke flavor would have absorbed into the drink better. It was still tasty and cool to finally check off my list. For the appetizer I had the burnt pork belly ends which were great. Nice smoky flavor and nice and tender. For my main I went with the duck confit which was cooked perfectly. The meat was super tender and the skin was nice and crispy. It was served with some fingerling potatoes and beets on the side. It also had some sauce on the plate which didn't have much flavor. Tasted almost like a poutine gravy. For dessert I forget what they called it but it was basically a rice pudding with almonds and cherries jubilee which I liked as well. All in all a great experience and will add this place to my list of places to go
