Great Valentine's Day dinner

Jeff Boyardee · 5/5

I was somehow able to get a somewhat last minute reservation for Jake's Oyster House for Valentine's Day last night. Unfortunately still getting over some food poisoning from lunch on Friday (won't say from where) so I had to switch up my meal a bit from usual. When we were first seated they offered us each a glass of complimentary Prosecco. Had me at complimentary. I also got what they called a I think Canuck mule and my wife got an aperol spritz. The Canuck mule is basically a mule with Forty Creek whiskey. Both very tasty and her spritz was huge. I also wanted to try a bowl of their special lobster bisque and usually I would have gone with some raw oysters but couldn't see myself doing all the hot sauces and horseradish so I opted for their barbecue oysters instead. The bisque was very tasty with some nice chunks of lobster. The oysters while they were good they probably could have sat on the grill a bit longer to have warmed them up a little more. They weren't cold but they weren't really quite warm either. Still good though. For our mains my wife went with the fish and chips and although it felt wrong being at Jake's and not getting some kind of seafood, especially their delicious lobster I have heard numerous people say that their ribs are very good and since it's too cold for me to use my smoker right now that's what I went with. Served with a nice side of mashed potatoes, coleslaw and some really tasty beans the ribs were good but I'm a bit of a barbecue snob and noticed immediately that they were definitely not smoked. Of course Jake's being a seafood restaurant I'm not sure what I was expecting. They were good though. Tender but next time I'll stick to seafood. I will say that is one thing with Jake's, I wish they offered more fish options. They always have shrimp, lobster and I believe salmon on their menu and then one special of which last night I believe was halibut but it would be nice to have some more options. Swordfish was sounding really good last night. I do know that I just missed that and they had it for the taste of Burlington. My wife seemed to enjoy her fish and chips which was huge and she ended up taking about half home. For dessert we went with their raspberry cheesecake which we also liked. Was using my $50 bonus gift card from our $200 gift card that I got for Christmas so we'll definitely have to head back once my stomach is doing better and do a lobster blowout. Looking forward to it. Oh, I almost forgot. They gave my wife a chocolate rose at the end which was a nice touch.
