I've seen a few people recommend Ben Thanh (NOT to be confused with Ban Thai which I have done) for their pho. Even though I had ramen for lunch in Toronto yesterday, some pho sounded good so I decided to give it a try. The restaurant is a nice space and was very busy on a Friday at lunch time. I went with a small 109 which is rare beef, brisket and tendon. I told the waiter I wanted it spicy but there was a dollar charge for that and he said I was better off just putting some of their hot sauce on the table in it so I went that route. Don't be fooled by the small size as it is not small and was very filling. The broth was very tasty as were all the ingredients. Also nice to see that they give you all the fixings on the side, including one hot ass Thai chili which I broke in half and threw in there and my broth certainly continued to get hotter throughout the meal. I eventually ended up taking it out near the end. Typically I'm not a fan of places that offer more than one cuisine, with pho being Vietnamese and then also having some Thai dishes on their menu but looking around the other plates that people ordered did look good so I will for sure have to go back and try some of their Thai food / curries. If I did have one complaint it was at the service was pretty slow. I ended up giving up and going up to the front counter to pay which was a little annoying but they were busy. Also I wasn't offered tea but I started noticing every other table had it so I asked if it was included and they said yes so I had them bring me some. Would have been nice to have been told that. Even with that I will plan on going back. Check them out.
